I would guess that Obama will react well to the new government in Salvador. The US tends to be more comfortable with Latin American leftists as long as they don't form or join anti-american alliances. Funes found himself on the defensive during the campaign as the right accused him of having ties to Chávez. I don't know much about Salvadoran politics, but it seems like an anti-american alliance with Chavez would be a political liability. At any rate, I don't expect El Salvador to do anything to risk their positive relationship with the US government because a large percentage of their economy depends on remittances from the US.

I made some changes to the article as per your suggestions, but I still have two questions:
1. Who ordered the military in if not the PM?
2. Why does the New Nation describe the BDR as paramilitary if they aren't?

I am assuming there are political sides to the issue, and a local bias I am not familiar with. Is the New Nation slanted one way or another? Also, do you have a source that I can link to?

Sorry, but feel obliged to point out that Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, did not order the army to quell the mutiny. And the fact she refused to do so caused some consternation, not least among the military themselves, as well as praise. And the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) are not a paramilitary border organisation. They are the border defence force. It is not that they want to be an independent force, and neither are they under police control. Their dispute originated in a fight for fair wages, permission to go on better-paid UN peacekeeping missions, and the end of promotion of senior army staff to BDR officers over soldiers, among other things.

Maybe it's just easier to boycott academics and so on. Since you can't look under your toys or kitchen items and see "made in Israel", the most visible Israeli exports are their installments in museums and cultural institutions. There was a protest outside a theatre in Chicago over an Israeli ballet company. How could that possibly do any good? The only result I could see is that Israeli citizens who would normally be opposed to war (artists, academics and the like) are now pissed off because their non-violent activities got ruined.

Any legitimate sanctions against Israel would focus on their military. Why are anti-Israeli sanctions almost exclusively against academics and medical professionals?
