A Korean Grandma’s Right to Die Case

KOREA: As an Italian right-to-die case has grabbed national US attention, a case in South Korea has gone unnoticed by the US media. The Korean grandmother has been comatose since last February, and neither doctors nor family members give her a chance of survival. In accordance with her stated wishes, her family has asked to remove her from life support.
Groups all over Korea are divided on the topic. The presiding judge was careful in statements to the media, saying:
I hope that people are not misled by the ruling and think euthanasia is possible. Patients’ families who are in similar situations as Kim shouldn’t abuse the case to pressure the ill person to take drastic decisions.
